CV SHOW 2008 - "DUTY OF CARE" - ARE YOU COMPLIANT?
The CV Show 2008 has yet again proved to be a success for Handistep especially in light of the introduction of the New Corporate Manslaughter Bill 220 EN which covers “Relevant Duty of Care” by Fleet Managers to ensure safe working environments for Drivers and Operators associated with loading and unloading of equipment into and out of vans.
Handistep is again proud to be part of the BT Fleet specification on the new Ford Transit which now features additional safety related OEM approved reverse sensors to ensure that both drivers and members of the public are safer whilst vehicles are reversing.
Many new enquiries were received during the course of the show from both National and International customers as van fleets are now specifying OEM tested and approved Handistep as part of their vehicle specification.
Handistep was also exhibited throughout the show on many other exhibitor stands including Bott Ltd / Nissan UK / Venson / Chambers / Eberspacher to name just a few with a range of steps covering a variety of applications from Refrigerated vehicles through to utility applications.
During 2008 Handistep have stated even more innovative step designs will be released to take into account the ever increasing legal safety changes as those recently seen in the New Corporate Manslaughter Bill.

Handistep with Reverse Sensors as an optional extra
Taking “Duty of Care” very seriously, Handistep have now released another version of their unique safety rear step system for Light Commercial Vehicles following extensive testing.
Handistep with reverse sensors!!
The bespoke system has been specifically designed for the Handistep product with features such as vibration proof sensors (tested and EMC approved) that have a 7 degree upturn in the sensor wand to give additional warning on overhanging hazards such as skips where normal style sensors which have a flat top to the reverse wand signal would not identify.
The sensor kit can be ordered at the same time as placing your step order, whereby the reverse sensors would be installed during manufacture of the step thus saving valuable installation time when fitting the Handistep product to your vehicle.
Pre wired and using dedicated IP68 rated connection plugs further ensure a quality product unlike any other sensors that are offered in the UK market place.
Should a reverse sensor update be required after installation of a normal Handistep, again this can also be offered as all step frames feature the necessary clearance holes in the metalwork needed to facilitate retrofitting the Handistep sensor kit to the Handistep rear step.
Further additions to the reverse sensor kit specification can also be provided with a park distance digital read out - dash mounted control making the system even more effective, being able to identify where the object / distance is in relation to the rear of the vehicle.
Many major fleets now specify Handistep with reverse sensors as standard, taking “Duty of Care” very seriously wanting to ensure drivers are fully aware of unseen objects behind them.

CV Show 2007 - NEC Birmingham
Handistep – Walker Scott again exhibited at the CV Show 2007 in Hall 4 on stand number 4401 and displayed the long awaited HandiTowStep suitable for use on LCV Vans and 4x4 applications. Taking into account the customers needs for access into the vehicle whilst a trailer is attached, Handistep have created a New unique installation bracket that is attached to the tow ball and features the anti slip / self cleaning treads that Handistep feature on all of their products.
With Duty of Care / Health Risk Management being of paramount importance Handistep – Walker Scott exhibited the latest edition to their range of steps being a triple version with reverse sensors installed onto a Vauxhall Vivaro demonstrator!
Major Fleets such as BT Fleet specify Handistep and the latest Ford Transit Chassis Cab with a one piece moulded box body was also be exhibited, again with another first from Handistep, being a 270 degree folding rear step featuring the now famous anti slip / self cleaning tread which is used on all their products. - Bespoke system...Specialist order only.
Together with OEM’s and Fleet Managers, Handistep have been busy creating New Handistep innovative designs for New Van Models throughout the UK/EU promoting Fleet Van Safe Rear Access ref to Health & Safety Policy associated with safe loading and vehicle access.
One of the latest steps requested for design was for the Iveco Daily 65C Twin Cab Chassis for NHS Blood Donor Fleet, with right and left side access steps for the rear cab doors.
New OEM Van Designs are now available for Ford, Vauxhall, Volkswagen, LDV, Iveco, Mercedes, Renault, Nissan, Toyota, Citroen, Peugeot, Fiat Light Commercial Vans. Europe Support Handistep – Van Safety Products
Since the International CV Show in March, Handistep has received a very positive response from major European Fleets who until now were not aware there was such a unique product available. Being aware of the European Directives that surround Duty of Care and Health Risk Management many European Fleet Managers visited the Handistep stand at the exhibition to see the product and gain product information and discuss their requirements.
With the interest that was expressed at the show, Handistep are currently establishing links with major European companies with a view to becoming distributors for both Handistep and the latest product to be added to the Handistep range being the HandiTow Step.
Because the products hold accreditation and approvals from major OEM’s such as Ford & Vauxhall and is TUV / ELVD compliant; European companies can install the product with peace of mind knowing the product has been fully approved at both Dunton Research Centre and Millbrook Proving Ground.
There will be Additional updates as the European success unfolds.
True Blue Truck - Ford event -May 2007 HENRY FORD COLLEGE
Handistep were invited to attend this event to display Handistep Safety to all VIP Ford attendees at this three day Ford event as a PR for Ford to present Ford Transit Package to Dealers and Fleet Customers.
It proved a successful show with all delegates receiving Handistep sales information packs highlighting Safety & the Ultimate Protection Design Features of the Handistep.
